Other Activities in Punta Cana

Other Activities in Punta Cana

Helicopter Flight
Experience Punta Cana from up above the palm trees, white sandy beaches and sparkling turquoise waters. The helicopter flight offers an amazing opportunity to see Punta Cana in an exciting and unique way. Fly along the coast of Bavaro Beach taking pictures of the brilliant coastline and amazing coral formations. How long you enjoy sightseeing on this thrilling excursion is up to when you choose from a variety of timeframes.

Deep Sea Fishing
Fishing has been at the heart of most coastal towns. The tradition continues to this date. A variety of fishing excursions are offered to the tourists. You can learn how to fish from the shore (as many Dominicans still do), go out with a small boat and go fishing on the reefs, or go out with larger boats for some serious deep sea fishing.
Fishing is practiced with success all year round, but the summer is the best time to do so, in terms of the variety and numbers of fish and calmer waters. The South Coast hosts fish like Wahoo, Sailfish, Marlin, Porpoise and Barracuda. The North Coast hosts fish like Wahoo, King Mackerel, Dorado and Tuna. Deep-sea fishing is also available from the East Coast tourism destinations of Punta Cana and Bavaro.
In case you decide venturing out to the seas with a local fisherman, and not a licensed tour operator (something that we do not necessarily recommend) make sure the boat is safe - that it contains life preservers, safety equipment and a working radio.

Scuba Diving

There are many areas in Punta Cana and Bavaro where you can scuba dive, however, they are too shallow if you are an experienced scuba diver and need a challenge. There are many spots near the area of Punta Cana where you can enjoy some real good scuba diving.
Many resorts offer scuba diving classes for the beginners, so be sure to consult your tour guide about such services. Now, for the real scuba diving there are places like Saona Island and Catalina Island than can satisfy even the most experienced divers.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling is another great activity that can be done in this region. Unlike Punta Cana scuba diving that can get a bit pricy, the snorkeling activity is very cheap and they provide you the equipment needed. Checking out the clear and breathtaking scenery under the sea is quite a remarkable experience. You can bring your own masks and snorkles, but if you want they can supply you with masks, snorkles and a flotation vest.

Punta Cana Night Life

Punta Cana's Night Life

Who said Punta Cana was just beaches and sun? When the night comes the partying side of the dominicans wakes up. If you're staying in a Punta Cana hotel you can be sure that there will be a night club where you can enjoy the good music and rum, however the best clubs are outside the hotel perimeter.

The most popular discos and clubs in the near town are "La Punta", "Areito", "Palladium Bavaro", "Pacha", and of course "Tropicana" and "Mangú". The hotel will probably offer you the choice of a bus ride to those clubs or you can always take a taxi ride to get from and to the hotel.

Tropicana is located inside a natural cave with fire shows and party all night long. Mangú is one of the most famous discos in the Bavaro town, on the lower floor merengue, salsa and bachata music never stop; in high contrast with the tecno-house music on the top floor. I recommend becoming friends with the local dominicans and get carried away, since they know better than anyone where to go to enjoy the night.

Fun-Fun Cave Punta Cana

One unforgettable experience of your trip will be the descent to Fun-Fun cave, one of the largest caves in the world. This service is offered by “Rancho Capote”, an ecologic tourism and adventure company with more than twelve years of experience.

Punta Cana Weather

Punta Cana Weather

Punta Cana's weather is the reason, aside from having the most beautiful beach in the world, that this is the best tourist destination in the Caribbean. There is very little seasonal temperature difference with highs averaging 32 degrees Celsius at midday and 22 degrees at night. It is never too hot and never too cold, the temperature rarely falls below 18 degrees at night or climbs above 35 degrees during the day. You want your days at the beach to be hot, but you don’t want to burst into flames either.

The “Punta Cana breezes” is always blowing onto the beach, creating the perfect sea and weather conditions for water sports. If you like to do anything with a sail attached, this is the place. Don’t worry about the waves at the beach, the 30km coral reef protects almost all of the Punta Cana shoreline.

 Hurricane Season

The hurricane season is officially from June to November, but the peak seems to be August and September. The last two hurricanes to hit the Dominican Republic were Georges (a category 3 storm) in September 1998 and Jeanne (a category 1 storm) in September 2004. Statistically, the Dominican Republic gets brushed every 5 years and suffers a direct hit by a hurricane every 17 years. However, most storms that make landfall on Hispaniola tend to hit the western side of the island (Haiti) and DR’s sister island of Puerto Rico. Punta Cana has a much slimmer chance of ever getting hit than all of the Caribbean locations to the west.
